when web designing,is it better to use existing templates or design from scratch?

i have a few domains that am trying to develop but am not sure whether its better to design a website from scratch or use templates from a web host company.

If you don’t know what you are doing when it comes to Web design, use the templates. Rarely will you get a better looking result than a template you like, so why spend money if you don’t need to do so?

in web design, are the templates made in dreamweaver?

I am currently doing a course in web design and currently working in dreamweaver, however i cant see how dreamweaver could create professional templates like most websites. Are templates made in photoshop or something else and then are they imported into dreamweaver?

What my guess is, is that the template is made somewhere else and dreamweaver is just a program for the content of the site?

A website designed with DW is quickly recognisd by professionals, and you will automatically be labelled (forever) and Amateur, even if you make incredibly great layouts.
“Template” means using something you will re-use again and again: the “taylor made design”, the “personality” are gone through the window. You are a cheap designer.

Professionals use essentially Photoshop (the industry standard), designing a site UNIQUE for the client – no template -
Then, they start coding their design to suit the client’s requirements.

No templates, no DW, just plain professionalism.
The difference?
I would pay 100$ for any design on DW, and not a cent more, while I would pay several 1000′s for a really professional and personalised design.

good place for web design templates?

I am looking for a place, or person who can help with designing a website, or may have a fantastic web template that I can use for my website. It is a heavy metal web-zine, and we were running last year as a german only site getting around 10,000 hits a month.

We are now international with writers in the States, and UK, along with our 6 man team in Germany. I have the graphics, and headers, but unfortunately the time I don’t have to design it.

I am asking if someone can design one in HTML, and send me the templates. One for a welcome page, and the other to be the template for the site itself.

I appreciate the time.
