Had a problem with my washing machine where my lovely partner Louise overloaded the machine causing it to break down.  We had to call out a washing machine repair man based in Doncaster.  After we struck up a conversation I learned that some unscrupulous directory’s  were contacting off line businesses and telling them that they could get them in first place in Google for washing machines Doncaster (via advertising on there directory) for £100 per month.

I do not have a problem with directories offering there service, but when they give false amounts of traffic and baffling with bull then I do have a problem.

The figures  they were quoting for a  page on there directory, supposedly  getting 900 hits a month for washing machines Doncaster. I checked the stats with googles keyword tool and found that there was only 60 searches a month, with a number one position only getting 50% of clicks I find it hard to justify there quoted figures.

I believe this brings us, the people who make our living on the Internet look bad.  Seo should be conducted ethically and if you cant do something to positively impact a business, then they should not be a client.

Update on Tony our washing machine repair man from Doncaster

A friend of mine had a spare washing machine in his garage and offered to lend it to us while we were waiting for our washing machine to be repaired. As we were moving the broken machine my friend  took a quick look at the back of the machine and said, you do know that the power connector is not connected to the motor.

I was  shocked to say the least as I had spoken to Tony who had told me that the the main computer  on the machine was the problem and it could not be anything else as he had checked everything, I had asked him on more then one occasion if he was sure that was the problem

Ill let you make your own decision , was this simple human over site, or an outright attempt at conning me. Needles to say I wont use Tony again, the only good thing that came from this is that no cash was handed over before we found the problem. Although when I spoke to tony on the phone before I found out about the connector he did say that the computer comes unprogrammed and he will have to do a bit of phoning around to see where he could get it done – I think I was being primed for another price hike

So a Job that should have been £20-£25 was inflated to £117 before the cost of programming the computer for the washing machine.
